10 Ways To Create The Best Email Subject Lines

Do you want your email content opened, read, and clicked? It all starts with the subject line.

While they may seem like a small part of your message, subject lines are one of the very first impressions you have on your email recipients. And they're your ticket for standing out in a crowded inbox.

Here are 10 tips for effective subject lines:

  1. Create a sense of urgency

  2. Keep it short and sweet - under 6 words / 40 characters

  3. Make use of the preview / preheader text

  4. Tell your recipient what’s inside the email - don’t be too vague.

  5. Ask a question

  6. Use numbers eg. Top 5 must haves for summer

  7. Start with action verbs eg. Meet, Discover, Shop

  8. Time it right - aim for early morning or early evening and split test what works best with your audience

  9. Don’t use all capitals and lots of exclamation points!!!!! You might trigger a spam trap.

  10. Try using emoji’s to see if this works for your audience.
